How can I get the mLearn Mobile app?

Your mLearn Mobile app is available from Google Play and the Apple Store. Contact your IT department and/or check your institutions’ website for links. You can also install the app directly from your mobile device by searching for ‘Your institutions Mobile’ on your devices app store.

How do I start using the app?

Once you have downloaded the app, you will be prompted to enter:
  • – Your Username
  • – Your Password
The Username and Password are the same login details that you use to access your Learning Management System on your laptop or desktop.

I can’t get the app to work. What do I do?

Check that you are entering your correct username and password for your Learning Management System (LMS) and confirm that you can access the LMS on your laptop/desktop with the same username and password. If you have admin user status, check with your site administrator that they have generated a security token for you to access the site with the mLearn mobile app. If you still cannot access your learning management system with your app, email our support team at support@mobilelearning.io. State the issue and include what device, operating system (iOS/Android) and what version of the operating system you are using.

Why can’t I sometimes access the app?

This could be because of interruptions in your internet connection. Wait a while and try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your site administrator.

How do I refresh my app?

Pull down the screen in “Courses” to refresh or use the top right hand side “Refresh” button.

Why do download times vary?

It depends on the amount and type of files being downloaded and rendered for viewing:
  1. Initial download on login or return, downloads all Course Headings.
  2. Next download contains all the navigation and content for all courses, which is data heavy and can take some time. (You do have the option to continue with cached -previously downloaded – data).
  3. Some resource types are data heavy. For example a book module could be 200MB in size and consequently will take time to download and render.
  4. Downloading Forum Topic and Thread headings should be relatively quick.
  5. Depending on the number of forum posts, these can take longer to download. Since we need to track parent and child relationships between each person posting to show levels of interaction and if online we refresh each time to make sure all posts are updated.

What if my screen freezes?

A Wi-Fi dead spot can cause network conflicts and result in your app freezing. Should this happen, exit the app and force quit (swipe upwards).

What permissions does the app require?

The app requires the following permissions:
  • Record audio, using your device microphone – for uploading to your learning management system
  • Access your photo gallery – for uploading to your learning management system
  • Access your camera – for uploading to your learning management system
  • Network access – to be able to connect with your learning management system and check if you are connected, and if not to switch to offline mode.
  • Notifications – to receive push notifications

I can’t see my course on the app. What do I do?

Check with your course tutor or course convenor that you are correctly enrolled.

How do I access my course resources offline?

When you view a resource file (pdf, audio or video files, book module etc) for the first time, it will automatically download to your mobile device. You will find all your downloaded resources in “My Files” in the “Tools” section of your app. You can delete any and all or your resource files by selecting and deleting them.

Is there a space limit on “My Files”?

The space available for downloaded resource files depends on the memory capacity of your mobile device. If you do not enough memory to download a resource, you will get a notification to say you do not have enough memory. You can create space for resources by deleting previously downloaded resources in “My Files”.

How can I back up all my app data?

For iOS devices, iTunes can be used to back up a snapshot of all the data associated with the app. iTunes can then be used to restore data for the app. For Android devices, under phone settings, you’ll find a section called “Backup and Reset”. Here you will find an option for backing up your data, including Wi-Fi passwords, preferences and app data.

If I delete the app, will I lose all my files and notes?

Yes. But you can back up all your data before you delete the app – see FAQ above.

Who should I contact for help with the app?

Contact your site administrator to assist you in getting the app to work correctly. If they cannot solve the issue, contact app support at support@mobilearning.io
